Interest in Valley Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Doctors Medical Center Continues to Grow

Dec 15, 2017

Modesto will soon welcome future orthopedic surgeons to the Central Valley as they interview for 3 sought-after spots in the Valley Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Doctors Medical Center. Nearly 200 applications were submitted to the program, and 23 of them will be interviewed for the three available spots (Class of 2023). We are set to have 16 residents for the upcoming academic year. This is the highest number of applications the program has received to date.

Interest in our orthopedic residency continues grow and is proving to be one of the top in the country. Our Modesto residents have ranked in the top 1-2% in the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination (OITE), a standardized exam administered annually to all ortho residents across the country by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

In addition, Dr. Erich Huish, one of our residents graduating in December, was the 2017 Recipient of the Outstanding Resident of the Year Award in Orthopedics. The American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO) and the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) selected Dr. Huish for this award, which is given in recognition of exemplary work, leadership and clinical performance as well as commitment and dedication to the osteopathic profession. Dr. Huish was recognized in October during Honors 2017, the AOF’s Annual Gala in Philadelphia, one of the profession’s most prestigious events.

Interviews for the upcoming academic year are as follows:

Thursday, Dec. 14 – 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. – DMC Conference Center, Day 1 Interviews (closed)
Thursday, Dec. 14 – 6 p.m. – Camp 4 Wine Café in Modesto, Interview Dinner (potential photo op)
Friday, Dec. 15 – 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. – DMC Conference Center, Day 2 Interviews (closed)

Having these applicants in Modesto not only benefits our program and community, but also brings business to local hotels and restaurants, including Camp 4, where the interview dinner is being held.
