Mar 12, 2018

What: Stop the Bleed: Bleeding Control Basic Course, Learn the Basics of Bleeding Control

When: Saturday, March 31, 2018 (National Stop the Bleed Day)

Times: 9-10:30 a.m.; 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; 1-2:30 p.m.

Where: McHenry Conference Center, 1445 McHenry Avenue in Modesto

Description: Emergent injuries can happen at any time and for a wide variety of reasons: home accidents, car crashes, bombs or mass shootings. According to the American College of Surgeons, uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable deaths resulting from a traumatic injury. Emergency responders can take up to eight minutes or longer to respond to a 911 call and deadly bleeding can cause death in 2-3 minutes. This course is designed to teach non-medically trained community members how to control bleeding while awaiting first responders. It’s important to know what steps can help reduce blood loss and help increase the chance of surviving a traumatic injury. This course includes graphic content and is recommended for ages 12 and older, or with parents’ discretion.

Community members can RSVP by calling Trauma Services at (209) 573-6151. No medical background required. Additional information can be found here: www.bleedingcontrol.org.
