Jun 22, 2021

A registered nurse at Doctors Medical Center has won a national competition in weightlifting.

Shaina Vales, an emergency department nurse, took home first place in the Women’s Super Heavyweight Division at the United States Strongman National Competition on June 5, 2021, in Minnesota. She won her weight class overall.

In order to win, Shaina competed in a series of events throughout the day that she trains for year-round. Some of the events included an overhead press with 210 pounds, a deadlift eight times with 435 pounds, walking/running 100-feet with 225 pounds in each hand, and carrying/lifting concrete balls over a 52-inch bar.

Shaina has competed in local competitions, but this was her first national competition. Winning this title qualified her for an upcoming pro competition. Congratulations, Shaina!
