Our History

On July 7, 1962, a group of local physicians opened Doctors Hospital of Modesto to provide healthcare services to the community. To better reflect a full and growing scope of services, it was renamed Doctors Medical Center of Modesto in 1979.

A $72 million expansion in the 2000s allowed Doctors Medical Center to continue to meet the growing healthcare needs of the Central Valley in the areas of trauma, heart care, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, neurology and oncology.

Today, Doctors Medical Center provides the Central Valley communities with exemplary medical care and has grown into a dynamic 461-bed facility with more than 2,600 dedicated employees, including many of the finest medical specialists in their fields, providing some of the most advanced technologies and progressive treatment protocols in the country.

Doctors Medical Center is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, is licensed by the State of California and is an approved provider of benefits for many insurance plans in addition to Medicare and Medi-Cal.
