We at Doctors Medical Center are proud of our fully accredited cancer program by the Commission on Cancer Approved Program by American College of Surgeons.  Obtaining care at a Commission on Cancer approved cancer program ensures that patients with the diagnosis of cancer will receive:

• Comprehensive care offering a range of advanced services and equipment.
• A multispecialty team approach to coordinate cancer treatment options available.
• Access to cancer-related information, education, and support.
• A cancer registry that collects data on cancer type, stage, and treatment results, and offers lifelong patient follow-up.
• Ongoing monitoring and improved care.

Our Community Cancer Outreach Program at Doctors Medical Center takes pride in offering educational programs to our cancer patients and the community.

Cancer Prevention & Early Detection educational lectures are offered to our community twice a year to provide information about cancer, including reducing risks and ways to prevent or modify these risks. Dedicated physicians and other experts present the lectures based on the need of the community. Doctors Medical Center Cancer Committee selects and approves the topics to be presented.

Diagnostic Center at Doctors Medical Center is equipped with the latest technology and diagnostic interventions, providing diagnosis of cancer.

Tumor Board meets weekly to plan for the treatment for the cancer patients. Physician specialists discuss the complicated cases and unusual cancers in a professional format.

Inpatient Care is provided by a team of physicians, nurses, clinical social workers, pain management experts, wound & ostomy nurses and other professionals to offer cancer services to our patients.  Our Oncology Unit consists of 28 beds, equipped with the latest technology including patient access to internet and Closed Circuit TV educational channels.

Outpatient Treatment Center, a four-bed center is also housed on the unit. This center offers patients access to an array of professional nursing staff for the required treatments.  The unit’s friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable nurses make our patients stay a pleasant experience.

I Can Cope, Cancer Education Series are offered in conjunction with the American Cancer Society and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to anyone whose life has been touched by cancer. These educational series are offered twice a year and meet weekly for 4 weeks. Speakers include medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pain management experts, registered dieticians, physical therapists, clinical social workers, patient advocates & others trained in cancer treatment.

Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer Group empowers our patients and their families to fight breast cancer.  The group meets weekly for 8 weeks twice a year and addresses issues specifically for persons affected with breast cancer.

The Annual Cancer Survivor Celebration invites cancer patients and their family and friends to celebrate life once a year.  The Community Cancer Outreach Committee plans for this event throughout the year to honor cancer survivors.  A motivational speaker and entertainment provide a special evening for cancer survivors.

Palliative Care is provided for patients whose treatment options are exhausted to reduce the symptoms and complications caused by cancer.

End of Life Care is provided for terminally ill patients to assure them dignifying comfort.

Cancer Registry tracks the statistics of those afflicted with cancer and the outcomes of cancer treatments rendered at DMC. This data is reported to State and National agencies.  Patient follow-up serves as a reminder to physicians and patients to schedule regular clinical examinations and provides survival information to local and national agencies.
