Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Visitor Information

Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery

It is the goal of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to provide you and your infant with tender-loving, quality care, and it is our hope that you will visit your infant often.  We are dedicated to promoting a family-centered environment.  Every effort will be made to help the infant and his family to cope with the stresses which frequently accompany therapy, and to maintain the family structure by reinforcing the bonds between the family and the infant.

You may visit your infant most of the time.  Visiting is restricted during the change of nursing personnel (6:00 a.m. - 7:15 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.).

The NICU and Intermediate Care Nursery sometimes become extremely busy and emergency conditions occur.  If you or a visitor is ever asked to leave we request your cooperation and support.

Because our environment is often crowded we ask that you think carefully about the number of visitors you admit.

Guidelines for other visitors:

  • We would like you to have the opportunity to have a reasonable amount of special visitors.
  • Only parents of the infant will be given information regarding the baby's condition.
  • All visitors, except parents and siblings must be at least 16 years old to visit.
  • Siblings may visit in the NICU (specific guidelines apply).
  • Grandparents, other relatives, and friends of the family may visit only when accompanied by a parent.
  • Visitors will be asked to wait in the family waiting areas and not in the unit hallways.
  • Family and friends calls should be due to emergencies only.

Intermediate Care Nursery

ICN is our satellite unit located on the second floor.  Before you go upstairs you will need to check in at the main NICU nursing station.
