Modesto, Calif. – Thirty minutes and a simple ultrasound scan could help save the lives of men between the ages of 65 and 75 with a history of smoking. Doctors Medical Center will offer a $30 abdominal aortic aneurysm screening from 1 to 4 p.m. throughout July and August.
Men between the ages of 65 and 75 with a history of smoking are at risk for an abdominal aortic aneurysm, and being obese and having elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure further increases this risk. Aneurysms develop slowly over many years and often have no symptoms. But they can grow larger and eventually rupture, causing a fatal or life-threatening medical emergency. The screening at Doctors Medical Center includes an examination of the patient’s legs to detect pulses or sensations, an ultrasound of the patient’s abdomen and a written risk assessment.
The screening is limited to only men ages 65 to 75 with a history of smoking. Patients are encouraged to call (888) 284-6641 to schedule an abdominal aortic aneurysm screening appointment today. Patients that have made an appointment for this screening will need to fast for eight hours prior to the screening (only coffee and water are allowed).
