MODESTO, Calif. – More than 135 students in preschool through fifth grade channeled their artistic skills for a coloring contest held by Doctors Medical Center. Students colored a picture of “Leo,” the hospital’s sophisticated, minimally invasive da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System.
A winner from each grade was selected. Winners received free movie passes, and the winning entries will also be displayed on the hospital’s Web site and throughout Doctors Medical Center during the month of September. The winners are:
- Preschool: Luke Thompson of Modesto
- Kindergarten: Alyssa Ruelas of Modesto
- 1st Grade: Jose Antonio Padilla of Denair
- 2nd Grade: Francisco Calvillo of Modesto
- 3rd Grade: Madison Hickerson of Lathrop
- 4th Grade: Nicolas McKeon of Turlock
- 5th Grade: Stephanie Perez of Ceres
The winning entries can be seen here or below this release. Everyone who entered the contest received a Child I.D. and Records Kit, where they can attach a photo, fill in their personal and medical information in case of an emergency.
Marketing and public relations manager Alexis Dias said she was impressed with how many kids shared their art during this first contest.
“It was fun to judge the entries, but it was a difficult decision,” Dias said. “There’s so much creativity in this region, and we’re happy to have the chance to share it with our patients and guests.”
The contest was part of a recent community outreach effort to inform the public about the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System at Doctors Medical Center With this system, physicians at Doctors Medical Center can perform gynecological and urology surgeries resulting in less pain, shorter recovery times and the potential for better outcomes, thus allowing patients to transition back to their everyday life more quickly and easily.
Dias said this won’t be the only chance for young people to show off their creative skills. In fact, she said future contests may be open to different age groups.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in this contest and to all the parents and teachers who helped young people submit their work,” Dias said. “It was a joy to see all the images directly from these kids’ minds. In our eyes, everyone is a winner.”
